Commitment to Young People
The Endowment Fund of Woodland Hills represents a commitment of financial support to its mission and programs. Woodland Hills recognizes the potential that exists in all youth. Its mission is to reduce risk factors, cultivate assets and build on the strengths in all youth and their families so they may lead successful lives. The Endowment Fund Committee manages the Endowment Fund and its growth to help ensure long-term success for Woodland Hills and its young people.
Grants Available
Current and former program participants can apply to the Endowment Fund for financial support. Applications are accepted for:
- Scholarship funds or special educational opportunities for Woodland Hills student graduates
- Special events, trips or recreational activities not covered by the Woodland Hills annual budget
- Support for other uses as deemed suitable or necessary by the Board of Directors
How It Works
Applications for support are accepted anytime although requests are reviewed three times a year (July, November and April). Grants range in amount, based on the number of requests received and funds available for distribution by the Board. Awards are made to those students that:
- show a need for financial support
- demonstrate a positive attitude toward education and healthy lifestyles
- attend post-secondary education school in Minnesota
- propose a service-to-children plan they intend to complete
Applications for grant renewals will be considered based on performance and academic progress. This occurs annually and is not automatic.
Please note that a gift from Woodland Hills may impact financial awards by other organizations since it changes your income level. Work with the financial aid office of the school or institution of your choice.
Giving Back
While attending college, scholarship recipients are required to fulfill a 25-hour service learning project contract that connects them with younger students. Examples of projects include tutoring or volunteering in schools. The purpose of the requirement is to present each grant scholarship recipient as a mentor and role model to other children.
For those individuals or groups that received grant funds applied to special activities, a project report is required within 90 days of its completion. Explain the challenges, learning and growth that occurred during the activities, and the long-term impact that is expected. Include a plan to share this knowledge and experience with other children.
